mallow is heavily inspired by nuclear throne by having quick action paced runs and chaotic challenging gameplay. the game is quite difficult and is very punishing. the main mechanic is the ability to select enemies as well as upgrades. for every upgrade you select you must select an enemy.

the main content is made up of enemies, upgrades, guns, and abilities. there is no meta progression.

  • 75+ upgrades
  • 50+ enemies
  • 25+ guns
  • 15+ abilities

This is awesome! Really fun already

Here are some random thoughts I had while playing:

Music slaps

Biggest complaint: ultra low res looks cute but detracts from the game for me. Lots of deaths were to something that I couldn't tell what it was or couldn't see. Lot of seemingly random explosions. Maybe everything explosive could share a color or shader?

Upgrade text is hard to read, I was leaning back in my chair

some tutorialization might be good before the demo hits steam:

Took me a while to figure out what the abilities were, how to use them, what the stamina stuff was

I'd put a big R over the player when you need to reload

Some indicator on the player on level clear, sometimes I didn't notice when the level was done

Having to choose the enemies is one of the main twists, but there is a big variety(which is awesome) and I don't know what any of them do. Some of them are obvious from the name, but maybe a short description?

Don't like the ammo mechanic currently, works better in nuclear throne when you can hold two weapons and decide to switch. Got a tracker gun, it was awesome, then I ran out of ammo and had no chance. felt bad, but maybe I was doing something wrong.

gunfire feels a lil puny - tons of screenshake elsewhere but none on firing, gunfire sounds dwarfed by music on default settings. Maybe add slight player knockback on fire?

Let me access the sound settings while in-game!

Really cool game!

Thank you for playing the game!! Your feedback is great I def try to implement the stuff you suggested. Not sure if I can change the art style now but it’s something I’ll keep in mind for my next game.
